Metso Minerals’ Product Management Transformed into Operational Master Data

The customer relationship between the Metso Minerals Construction business area and Roima Intelligence’s Product Management Business Unit (former Modultek) has already lasted more than a decade. As a result of constructive cooperation, Metso Minerals is developing its global item management and change management into operational master data at a rapid pace.

Both parties are satisfied with this winwin situation, in which Roima has received valuable design assistance in the development of its Aton software and Metso has been provided with rapid information technology solutions for its practical product management. Cooperation with Metso Minerals, part of Metso Corporation, started in the 90s, when the company was still known as Nordberg-Lokomo.

Metso Minerals uses Aton Global Item

For Metso Minerals, a state-of-the-art PDM system is vital with a view to business activities. Manufacturing is distributed to various locations and products are assembled from modules. With the help of effective product data management, the operating model can be exploited to its fullest business potential.

Today, it is a prerequisite of the system’s competitiveness that it flexibly adapts to continuous operational and organizational changes. The flexibility of Metso Minerals’ PDM system offers excellent support for the firm’s competitiveness.

Metso Minerals uses Aton Global Item Master, which handles, for instance, the global item data exchange system between ERP solutions. Item management is very challenging, particularly in the early stages of a project. At the beginning, various plants can use the same product under various item names. GIM (Global Item Management) was a project whose purpose was the unification of item data by means of cross-referencing the item codes of various ERP solutions through the integration of connection data into product data management.

Before the project, data was very scattered, but now, with the same PDM system being used globally, this problem has disappeared. The items established in the ERP systems are created through the Global Item Master portal.
