ESG case: Barona – optimizing 3PL WMS for sustainable workforce management

Barona Varastopalvelut Oy is part of Barona group strongly growing in the 3PL warehouse operator business area. Barona has recently opened a new logistics center (Avialogis) in the Vantaa region close to Helsinki.

Barona was using an older legacy warehouse management system for supporting their 3PL business. Barona has been experiencing significant growth and realized that its existing legacy solution would not support its future growth plans.

The 3PL WMS solution improves efficiency in warehouse management operations by reducing the usage of paper-based warehouse processes and facilitating the work of the operators, e.g., during material picking and packing. The solution contains built-in quality control points and barcode scanning, which reduces the risk of human errors during picking and shelling operations.

Overall, the WMS system better manages disturbed supply chains by providing better transparency, planning, and adjustment possibilities. Together, these improvements enable Barona to directly contribute to the UN sustainability goal of Decent Work and economic growth.
