Sports Group Denmark: Efficient warehouse management for sports and fashion

Sports Group Denmark is one of Scandinavia's largest companies, offering a complete range of products for sports shops. The company designs, manufactures, and distributes its own sports brands and sells a wide range of other sports brands. With 25 brands, Sports Group Denmark distributes sports and leisure products to 35 countries, reaching over 4,000 retailers.

In 2023, Sports Group Denmark took an important step towards a more efficient and scalable logistics setup, focusing on delivering better customer service. The company insourced its warehouse function, built a new logistics center, and implemented LOGIA WMS. This has led to fewer errors in deliveries, quicker delivery times, and a reduction in warehouse handlings.

WMS with specialized functionality for sports and fashion

As Sports Group Denmark established its new 24,000 m² central warehouse, the company decided to replace its ERP-driven WMS with LOGIA WMS. This transition provided them with industry-specific functionalities tailored to the unique demands of the sports and fashion industry. Every day, Sports Group Denmark manages a high-volume flow of shoes, clothing, and sports equipment, which places high demands on warehouse efficiency. To ensure the best solution, the company consulted Dansk Mode & Textil (DMOT), which pointed them in the direction of LOGIA WMS.

LOGIA WMS was chosen because of its modern and user-friendly design, which makes it easy to use in both high and low seasons with changing users and temporary workers. The company particularly benefits from the ability to upload images of each item. This provides a visual overview in the system's user interface and ensures accurate handling of the many product types and variants.

The warehouse management system controls the entire warehouse, which includes an AutoStore, rail system, pallet warehouse, and cross-docking area, in one unified flow. The solution is scalable and includes multiple customization options to match the company's current needs and future growth ambitions. Another deciding factor was the WMS solution's ability to integrate with Sports Group Denmark's other systems for a fully integrated setup.

Efficient handling of many order types

LOGIA WMS optimizes the handling of Sports Group Denmark’s daily order flow and different order types. A dominant order type is pre-orders, a high-volume order type where large batches require fast and efficient distribution to the stores.

When receiving the goods, the warehouse operator can view pre-orders and determine which items go to the cross-docking area and the buffer warehouse. Placing goods in the cross-docking area eliminates unnecessary storage and extra handling. This optimizes space utilization and ensures a faster flow of goods, especially during peak season.

AutoStore also plays a significant role in the warehouse setup, operating with 52 robots and 83,408 boxes. Handling 85% of Sports Group Denmark's goods, AutoStore has significantly boosted the efficiency. When receiving the goods, the warehouse operator can see which items need to be stocked in AutoStore and which belong in the buffer warehouse.

LOGIA WMS optimizes order processing by prioritizing according to warehouse shipment times and delivery destinations across manual picks and picks from AutoStore. In addition, the WMS ensures efficient handling of Value Added Services (VAS) to meet specific requirements for the picking, packing, and shipping process.

The efficient coordination across areas and order types has optimized workflows and ensured fast and accurate handling of goods, at Sports Group Denmark. The WMS has minimized the number of warehouse handlings, saving both time and space. The company's day-to-day delivery has also become much faster with the help of LOGIA WMS.

A good collaboration about efficient warehouse management

The collaboration between Sports Group Denmark and Roima Intelligence has been based on mutual trust. Through open and constructive dialogue, both needs and potential solutions were thoroughly reviewed to ensure the most efficient work processes.

Morten Stougaard Nielsen, IT & Logistics Project Manager at Sports Group Denmark says: “We are doing really well and have a fantastic collaboration with the LOGIA team on both operations, further development, and optimization.”

Specifically, Sports Group Denmark and Roima are collaborating on a project on automatic registration of packaging consumption. Warehousing companies are experiencing more and more requirements from the EU regarding ESG reporting. Together, the parties have discussed how packaging registration can be incorporated into the warehouse management system to make it easy to access and report data both quickly and efficiently.
