Ovako and Roima future-proof MES solutions in Hofors, Sweden

In line with Ovako’s strategic plan, the production support systems, including MES, SCADA, production planning, data management, and data analytics, are being renewed and expanded. This initiative aims to improve production efficiency and quality and ensure the company’s global competitiveness.

Roima conducted a feasibility study focusing on the rolling mill in Hofors, Sweden. The study mapped the current situation and identified future needs. The results showed that an upgrade of the MES system is necessary.

The current MES system is based on older technology and hardware. The new solution, structured according to the ISA-95 standard, will be modular and scalable, allowing Ovako to better adapt to changing market needs and technological advances. Modern technology also enables improved data analysis for production control and decision-making. The upgrade also improves traceability throughout the material flow, ensuring high quality.

By involving several departments in the Hofors plant in Sweden, Ovako ensures that the new system meets operational requirements and supports a smooth transition from the old system. Cooperation between the departments and Roima helps create a solution that is well-adapted to Ovako’s specific needs and goals.
